Craft Project
- Eligible Members: Ages 9-19
- Clubs offering Crafts: Rushing Rivers
The Crafts project allows members to take the beginnings of a craft idea that suits their interests and follow it through to a finished project! Members are encouraged to create a wide variety of crafts, and three are presented on achievement day at the end of the year.
Project Units
Unit 1- Simply Crafts (suggested ages 9 & 10)
a) Three craft articles made during the year and displayed at achievement day.
b) Complete Unit 1-Crafts Record Book.
Unit 2- Discovering Crafts
a) Three craft articles made during the year and displayed at achievement day.
b) Complete Unit 2- Crafts Record Book.
Unit 3- Creating Crafts
a) Three craft articles made during the year and displayed at achievement day. The member must design one article.
b) Complete Unit 3-Crafts Record Book.
Unit 4- Crafts and Patterns
a) Member to select one craft to study in depth. Study to include background and history of the craft, uses of the craft in the past and today, and skill and design techniques involved. Three articles using the craft are to be exhibited at achievement day. One article motif to be designed by the member. The pattern of the design is to be exhibited on achievement day.
b) Complete Unit 4- Crafts Record Book
Unit 5- Advanced Crafts (Senior Management)
a) Member to select two crafts and conduct a detailed comparison study of those crafts. Study to include history, past and present uses, skill and design techniques involved, marketing, and other areas of study at the discretion of the member.
b) Member to design two articles of each craft and display them at achievement day. An educational type display (using written work, pictures, and craft articles) summarizing the comparision study must be exhibited as well.
c) Member to make an oral presentation summarizing their comparision study to their club members at a club meeting or achievement day.
d) Member to design their own record book ( to inclued a written evaluation of their project).
e) To qualify for a Senior Management Skills Certificate, an outline of the project must be submitted to Youth and Community Developement Staff for approval. Project planning, developement and completion must be 12 months.
Unit 6- Senior Management
The following optional are only suggestions for senior management projects. You may choose one, or, with the approval of your club leader and Youth and Community Development Specialist or Assistant, develop one yourself. It is required that an outline of your achievement goals be sent to the BC 4-H office prior to beginning the project. Approval from Youth and Community Development Staff is required to start this project. Members to design their own method of recording their project work. Completion of one 10-12 month project is required for achievement day.
